system-utilities MSCONFIG
Included with Windows is the "Microsoft System Configuration Utility" or simply "MSCONFIG" system-utilities. This tool is designed to help you troubleshoot & diagnose problems with your computer. "MSCONFIG" can also be used to ensure that your computer starts quicker with alot less problems.System-utilities msconfig is where you can see and control all the programs that startup and are running on your system. You can make changes here to programs that you may or may not want starting every time you turn your computer on. Turning off some of these programs will reduce load times and reliability. Here are a few screen captures of what you need to do to start "msconfig".
Click on the "Start" button, then click on "Run"

System Configuration Utility Dialog
This is the "System Configuration Utility" dialog box appears with 6 tabs along the top. The first tab is the "General" tab

Tab 2 is the "System.ini"
Tab 3 is the "Win.ini"
Tab 4 is the "Boot.ini"
Tab 5 is the "Services"
Tab 6 is the "Startup"
The "Start up" tab is probably the most useful. This is where you can start or stop programs from running at startup. Especially useful if something is slowing down your system but your not sure which program it is. You can systematically turn one program off at a time to see what effect (if any) it has on normal startup operation. The same goes for the "Services" tab. You can view which services are running or stopped. If you want to stop a service just remove the check mark in the box, reboot your computer and that service will now be stopped and vice versa.
